Jim Riley

Jim Riley, Principal

Jim is a Principal and managing partner of Riley Stegner and Associates. He has over 40 years of experience in government and public affairs, assisting private companies engage legislation and regulation critical to their business.  Prior to forming Riley Stegner and Associates in 2012, Mr. Riley was the President and CEO of the Intermountain Forest Association and before that Director of Forest Policy for the National Forest Products Association in Washington, DC.

In addition to extensive government affairs experience, Mr. Riley has expertise in business and natural resource science and has advised clients on numerous investment and management issues. Mr. Riley completed his undergraduate and graduate studies in Forest Management and Economics at Utah State University and is a member in good standing of the Society of American Foresters.

Jim Riley maintains an office and his residence in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho where he is active with the community and his family. Mr. Riley currently serves on the Board of Mountain West Bank and the Board of the nonprofit Coeur d’Alene Lake Association. Previously he served on the Hayden Lake City Council and as President of the Childrens’ Village Foundation.

Peter Stegner

Peter Stegner, Principal

Peter has been involved in Idaho’s federal delegation for over a decade, specializing in natural resource and environment policy. He was Sen. Crapo’s State Director for Business and Economic Development, covering public policy issues related to business, the economy and health care. He interacted with hospitals, insurers, doctors and other health care providers in Idaho on issues before the United States Senate. He worked closely with Crapo’s D.C. policy team to provide them with a state perspective on the impacts of policy decisions made in Washington.

Peter previously served on Crapo’s D.C. policy staff, advising on natural resource and environment issues. As Crapo’s Legislative Assistant and Staff Director for the Environment and Public Works’ Subcommittee on Superfund, Toxics and Environmental Health, Peter worked on an array of issues ranging from transportation and infrastructure to public health. In his Staff Director role, he worked closely with committee staff on successful legislation regulating chemicals, as well as Health and Human Services programs aimed at researching and responding to cancer clusters.

Peter is from Lewiston and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English from the University of Idaho. He and his wife Heather reside in Boise.

Travis Jones

Travis Jones, Principal

Having previously led U.S. state and local policy engagement for NIKE Inc, the world’s largest sports retailer and a Fortune 100 company, Travis spearheaded NIKE’s policy advocacy with U.S. governors, state legislators, county and city leaders on a wide variety of issues including cybersecurity/consumer privacy, taxation, trade, sustainability, labor, and collegiate athletics.

He previously advised three Members of Congress with successful legislative efforts ranging from renewable energy, public land management, two Farm Bills, various water and environmental regulations, appropriations, and surface and maritime transportation.

Prior to that, Travis spent nine years as Executive Director of the Idaho Grain Producers Association – the statewide advocacy voice of Idaho’s wheat and barley producers and agribusinesses partners.

Travis grew up in Wallowa County, Oregon – an area three times the size of Rhode Island but with only 7,300 residents. He was raised working for all the family businesses – ranching, farming, logging, excavation and ready-mix concrete.

Jones holds a B.S. in Agricultural Business and an M.S. in Agricultural Economics, both from the University of Idaho. His passion for higher ed has translated to a long list of service to his alma mater, where he is the incoming president of the UI Alumni Association board of directors.

Travis has followed in his father Terry’s footsteps volunteering in the sport of rodeo. Travis serves as an Associate Director on the board of the Caldwell Night Rodeo in Caldwell, Idaho while Terry is the president of Chief Joseph Days Rodeo in Joseph, Oregon.

He is a father to three children alongside wife Samantha, and enjoys all things sports, fitness, big game hunting, concerts, and spending time with his family.
